As is now tradition, the Saturday night after day 1 of DCCX, Dan Chabanov and I record a podcast. This year, along with Chabanov, we were hosting Dan Langlois, too. Dan L, aka Action Dan, was in town as team mechanic for Arley Kemmerer's Fearless Femme team.

Fueled by a long day and a bottle of bourbon, the Double Dan show is a loose but fun affair. We may stray a bit from the path but I think the conversation is a good one that covers a lot of cyclocross ground.

David, Scott and Bill get into it about the Craft Sportswear Grand Prix of Gloucester and the U.S. Open of Cyclocross. We also dive into the European scene and breakdown Polderscross and Zonhoven.

As always, there were tangents galore including a philosophical discussion on where the U.S. UCI races are located (or are not located) and when officials should restart a race.

Scott, David and Bill give you the low down on all that happened at this past weekend's Charm City Cyclocross UCI C1/C2 races. We talk about the racing, the course, the hipsters and so much more. Theories are put forth, grievances are aired and conclusions (right or wrong) are made. We then move on to Ronse and talk about rainbow jerseys, mechanicals, internet commenters. It's an action packed hour that is not to be missed.

We are highlighting SDG Components, one of our sponsors from the ITCH tour in this episode. Check out www.sdgcomponents.com and give them  a follow on Twitter @SDGcomponents. Let SDG know that you heard about them on Crosshairs Radio.

For episode 45 we talk to Kerry Werner about, among other things, his transformation from top-level mountain-biker to pro cyclocross racer. Kerry has some great stories about his adventures in cycling. He is a person who comes across as pretty laid back but there's definitely an intensity there that drives Kerry to constantly analyze his performance and strive to improve. He's also got a bit of a prankster side and a good sense of humor, which makes for a fun conversation.

This episode was recorded outside of Madison, Wisconsin, as part of the ITCH Tour. We are highlighting Easton Cycling, one of our sponsors from that tour in this episode. If you have a cyclocross podcast, or any podcast for that matter, it doesn't take long before people start asking you who your dream guest would be. I think it's safe to say, this week I can put a check mark next to the first person on that list, because Sven Nys is our guest.

I am not going to insult your cyclocross intelligence with telling you about Sven Nys. You all know who he is and what he has accomplished. What I can tell you is that for all of the hard work he put in as a professional cyclist, he may be working even harder now. The guy goes non-stop. From managing the Telenet-Fidea team, to holding clinics, working the pits, washing team bikes, driving the van. He does it all.

In typical Sven Nys fashion, I asked for 30 minutes and he graciously gave me close to an hour. We have a great wide ranging conversation for the first half of the podcast, and then we get into the weeds, in the best of ways. Sven breaks down video from his final World Cup victory at Koksijde and then we talk for a bit about the 2016 World Championship race in Zolder.

For that second half of the podcast (right about the 27 minute mark) there is a video companion piece that is posted at cxhairs.com. It's basically the rest of the podcast but with video clips added for reference.

This podcastis made possible by the amazing support of Orange Seal. Along with our other above-and-beyond sponsors: Easton Cycling, SDG Components,Verge Sport, Feedback Sports and Squid Bikes. As always, please click on the links, throw a tweet their way, etc. You guys know the drill.

Scott, David and Bill convene for a spirited edition of They Don't Do That In Europe. We talk about China, Rochester and the upcoming Trek CXC race. I make an Alexander Haig joke nobody understands, and David makes some really bad Guns and Roses puns. It's a good listen.

We are coming at you from Vallnord, Andorra, for Crosshairs radio episode 41 during which I sit down with Simon Burney, the UCI MTB Coordinator and author of Cyclocross: Training and Technique. Simon is at Andorra to make sure everything goes to plan in the World Cup XCO race. He has a lot on his plate and it was great to have him make some time to chat at the end of a long day.

We recorded in the Trek Factory Racing XC team's camper, which is parked atop a climb, which among other things, featured in the Tour de France. Between that and the MTB World Cup finish line we could see from the window of the camper, the environment could not be better for a cycling podcast. You can hear the helicopter outside a couple times during our conversation as it evacuated fallen downhillers from the mountaintop, and a bit of other external noise. But for the most part, the traveling podcast studio did okay. Even after some early technical difficulties that had me scrambling to cobble together the backup equipment.

Simon Burney's book was the inspiration for Skills Drills and Bellyaches: A Cyclocross Primer. When I first interviewed Simon via email in 2009 I hadn't really thought about writing a book. At least not until he put that thought in my head. We had a wide-ranging conversation about MTB and cyclocross. Having worked closely with the UCI it was really good to hear Simon's insight on the rules and how they are applied in the United States versus Europe.

Thanks to The Service Course for once again sponsoring the episode. Check out the cleaning kits featuring tampico brushes available at www.theservicecourse.com. And follow along on Twitter at @sc_cycling

On episode 40 of Crosshairs Radio we talk to Micah Rice, USA Cycling Vice President of National Events. Micah is in charge of all USAC national championships and we spend a lot of time discussing cyclocross nationals. From if the event should move back from January to December, to whether the event should be four days rather than six.

So many topics to cover and we touched on a whole bunch of them. Thank you to everyone who submitted a question for Micah. I tried to work in as many as I could and apologize to those whose questions were not addressed. We may do this again in the future with Micah and can answer those questions in round two.

Thanks to The Service Course for sponsoring the episode. Check out the cleaning kits featuring tampico brushes available at www.theservicecourse.com. And follow along on Twitter at @sc_cycling. For the record, I had a 50/50 chance of getting right what BYOB stood for in The Service Course parlance. And I got it wrong. It's not bring your own brushes (that just sounds silly in retrospect) but rather bring your own bucket. I'll get it right next time.

It's podcast crossover time on Crosshairs Radio. Similar to how Richard Belzer would occasionally pop up in Law and Order episodes while he was starring in Homicide: Life on the Streets, before eventually getting his own Law and Order franchise, we are bringing in John Gatch of The Two Johns Podcast fame to add his always entertaining take on the world of cyclocross.

We set out to talk about the World Cup schedule and the show sprouts out in all directions from there, before ending with our favorite Two Johns moments.

This episode also kicks off the Wide Angle Podium Network donor drive. We want to keep the good times rolling and need your help to make it possible. Go to www.wideanglepodum.com, become a member and get cool stuff.

The episode is also sponsored by www.icksnay.com. Go check out the ICKSNAY wares. Buy a scarf, and everything else.

We take the Crosshairs Radio show on the road, once again, for episode 38. This time, to the Twin Cities, where I sat down with Nicole Mertz for a conversation that ranges from her first race ever on a single-speed cyclocross bike, that culminated in a stars and stripes jersey, to a bit of controversy surrounding her road racing season.

We talked on my in-laws porch in St. Paul, Minnesota, which means there's a bit of ambient sound, including dogs barking and kids playing, but the conversation is loud and clear. So grab a tall glass of iced tea (unsweetened), find a porch and a rocking chair, and settle in for the show.

In episode 37, we welcome CrossVegas head honcho, Brook Watts, to Crosshairs Radio for a lively discussion about the history of the event and what we have to look forward to for the tenth year celebration. In its second year as a World Cup event, CrossVegas has revamped the entire course and brought a fresh look to this American cyclocross institution. Brook gives us a peek inside the race and gets us ready for September.

Joining in as co-host for this episode is Scott Dedenbach of the Women's CX Project and Cyclocross Today. You can follow Brook on twitter at @crossvegas and Scott at @cyclocrossnet.

For episode 36, Cole Oberman dropped by CXHairs HQ after winning the Iron Hill Challenge MTB XC race and making the drive down interstate 95 to Washington DC. We had a great chat about the life of a pro MTB/CX racer and how cool Harrisonburg, Virginia has become. We then ate Thai food before sending Cole back on the road.

Cole is a professional mountainbike racer with Ridebiker Alliance. He also races cyclocross bikes with Pro Tested Gear (three words). Although he may not have started racing seriously until age 20, Cole has more than made up for it with a quick rise to the elite level over the past five years.

For episode 35 I had the opportunity to chat with Richard Nieuwhuis, who owns A. Dugast BV, the company that makes Dugast tubular tires. We found some time before the Lenzerheide World Cup mountainbike races to sit down in the Scott Odlo compound and talk cyclocross. The environment was not ideal so there is definitely some background noise, including an espresso machine and a late cameo by Band of Horses. But the conversation is wide-ranging, from how he got into the business and how he works with top pros to produce the treads we all know to dishing on the the best riders in the business.

Before the conversation with Richard begins, there is  a quick chat with Scot Hermann about a bonus episode we put together for subscribers to the Wide Angle podium podcast network. That bonus content should be available soon.

Ellen Noble (Aspire Racing) is our guest for episode 34 of Crosshairs Radio. And it's a good one. A really good one.

I know I'm not alone in saying I've been a fan of Ellen's since her days with Trek Cyclocross Collective. It's astounding to think that having raced cyclocross for only five years, after coming over from mountainbiking, she is already one of the fastest women in the United States. But once you hear her talk about trying to make herself suffer so hard she bleeds out of her eyeballs, you'll understand how Ellen Noble has succeeded at pretty much everything she tries.

In our conversation we talk about her recent stint racing on the road and the mixed emotions that accompanied some great results. We also talked about joining Jeremy Powers' Aspire Racing team and what the future holds. But what was really cool, was getting into the topics that don't always come up on this show. We talked about the harsh reality of living in a social media spotlight, especially when one of your most emotionally painful moments in racing goes viral. We delved into the benefits of working with a sports psychologist and how that's not only helped Ellen's racing but also her overall mental outlook.

Truly an interesting conversation that I know you will come away from with a good feeling. Make sure to follow Ellen on Twitter, Instagram and SnapChat at @EllenLikesBikes.

The UCI released updated rules for cyclocross this week and the They Don't Do That In Europe crew of Scott Dedenbach, Mr. David Palan and Bill Schieken take an hour to hash out all of the changes. We compiled questions, did research, conferred with experts (really!), explained away all controversy, and got it 100 percent right ...  maybe 98 percent. If you want to follow along with the discussion, all of the rule changes and clarifications are available in an easy to read format, here: http://www.cxhairs.com/2016/06/14/uci-releases-updated-cyclocross-rules-and-regulations/.

We are calling episode 32 of Crosshairs Radio "The Sampler Plate," because there is a little bit of everything on this episode and all of it is awesome. We start off the show by checking in with Jeremy Powers who gives an update on what he's up to and also gives some insight into the season ahead for him and his Aspire Racing program. But the main reason to have Jeremy on was to talk about the upcoming Jeremy Powers Washington DC Cyclocross Camp, which we would love to see you attend. For more information on this year's camp please visit: www.bikereg.com/jeremy-powers-dc-cross-camp.

Also on the show is Junior World Cyclocross Champion, Jens Dekker. At only 17 years old, Jens is not only a star in the sport but he's also a great interview. Unfortunately, the sound quality on this one is not where I want it to be. It's listenable and may even be better quality than a lot of other podcasts you are used to, but we like to set the bar high and want to do better. So just to be sure you don't miss out on any of  the conversation, the transcript of the chat is available at www.cxhairs.com.

After Jens we talk to yet another World Champ! Evie Richards, the U23 Cyclocross World Champ joins us for a quick chat. This was originally a video interview I shot in La Bresse, France, before the last round of World Cup cross country mountainbike races. My original plan was to show some highlights of Evie on course in a nice video package. But I missed her in practice and only have race footage, which I can't show because of rights issues.

Also on the show is Tom Meeusen!! I've wanted to talk to this guy for some time and he did not disappoint. Super nice and a pleasure to talk to. Along with Richards I hope to have these two back for longer conversations. Like the Richards interview, this was also originally shot for video.

We close out the show with a segment produced by JB Hancock on Australian cyclocross. JB is joined by Scott Dedenbach of the Cyclocross Network and TDDTIE fame and Sean Cooley, editor of Australian Cyclocross Magazine.

On Episode 27 of Crosshairs Radio we talk to American Classic pro, Robert Marion. If you aren't familiar with Robert's story, it's a great one. It's a story of a guy who is driven to succeed no matter what obstacles are placed in front of him. As you will hear, Robert Marion is one of the hardest working people you will ever meet.
